I dont think it is horrible for the car, but it will make the tranny get much hotter quicker from what I have heard. As long as you dont do it too often you should not have any problems.

Default RE: Auto Tranny Question..

Now my car is a 5 spd, so I haven't tried it, but I don't see how it can hurt anything. The thing is, you shouldn't really have to. I mean, when you floor the car, it should be setup from factory to rev complete through the power band before shifting. If you rev past the power band, it's not doing you any good because it'll start dropping off in power, putting out less. I have a stocker '96 as well but 5 spd like I said, and I found the power band to be roughly 3,000 rpm's to about 5,200 rpm's, that's where it really pulls, after 5,200 the power starts to flatten. I shift around 5, 200 rpms, sometimes a little higher, but I don't run it to redline, because it puts out less power at 6,000 than it does at 5,200. Plus when I shift at 5,200, it drops me right in the middle of the power band for 2nd. So what I'm getting at is that if your auto doesn't run all the way to redlight before it shifts, that's probably a good thing because it's probably set to shift right before the power band drops off. This is just my thoughts, it could be completely wrong, I really don't know. If I had an auto, I'd get a good shift kit where you can set the shift points and really make it slam between gears...that makes for a fun to drive auto.
