3" exhaust question?

Default 3" exhaust question?

Im wanting to do my exhaust right now and i know later on down the road when i supercharge it im gona be right at 500 horses and will need the 3" exaust..Now my quistion is..is if i go ahead and get the hooker super comp l/t headers with the x pipe without cats and go with the 40 series flow masters will i be hurting my performane and would it sound like crap cause i dont have the power for a 3" exhaust?..i dont know what to do????

Dude... with 500hp you could pulg your **** with a bannana and not have to worry about a loss in performance. There is no way in the world you could tell the difference just by running flows. 3" piping will sound good if you have enough exhaust running through it... and 500hp will provide the proper amount.

I think he's implying he doesn't have 500 HP yet... but that's his plan... will that setup sound bad now with less HP... i.e. what is the minimum HP to run 3"?

Get with the program, buddy.

2 1/2 is good for up to 450hp I was told when I put my exhaust in at my performance shop.

Im sure 2 1/2 would be good for 1000 hp, or even more really - just that maybe thats their magic number for thinking its a good idea to upgrade. Really though, the larger exhaust piping the lower the back pressure - but it will hurt low end performance a pretty noticable amount in favor of higher rpm performance, not to mention you'll likely have to run dumps and thats gonna be insanely loud.
