4.6L SOHC Engine Improvements -General Help

4.6L SOHC Engine Improvements -General Help
I have a 2002 GT
Note that I have about 8 psi SC but I'm looking to up to 12-13psi range so
durability is important and I want to avoid compression detonation.
Also, my car is a daily driver so I dont want too rough of an idle.
I just want to know what I can do (on a budget) to make my SOHC engine as good (or better) than the stock DOHC engine (standard in Cobras and Mach 1s).
What are the best heads for my vehicle?
Should I just get a port/polish/valve job to current heads?
See Full Competition porting and Modifications
Are there DOHC heads that I can bolt on to my current block?
If so, who makes them? How good are they?
Can I safely bore out my cylinders for more displacement? (perhaps to make it a 5.0)
If so, can I find heads\Pistons to fit?
Is there significant value to getting forged 4.6L pistons?
Can I raise the compression (through shaving) from stock without detonation?
Any info on camshafts would be helpful.

You can't do anything internally to the engine "on a budget" labor and parts are expensive
What are the best heads for my vehicle?
Stock ported heads are your only option
Should I just get a port/polish/valve job to current heads?

Not without changing the timing cover, brackets, intake, many many things - you dont need that to make insane power
Can I safely bore out my cylinders for more displacement? (perhaps to make it a 5.0)

you can overbore to 5.0 liters, but only in an aluminum block, not your factory cast block. Pre '03 Cobras had aluminum, I think maybe some Lincolns had em too
Is there significant value to getting forged 4.6L pistons?
Larger window to tune, less chance of destroying pistons from a bad tune or too much cylinder pressure[/color]

You don't really want to shave an overhead cam engine, then things like timing chain length etc. become an issue.
Any info on camshafts would be helpful.
VT makes some great cams, or contact www.modularfordpowerhouse.com and talk to them about VT stage 1&2 cams or custom grinds
