why does the 96-97 mustang gt have more horsepower than the 98 mustang gt,

it dosnt...the 98 has 225 and the 96-97 has 215(i beleive 215)

yeah i meant to say that the other way around,
so since it is just due to porting, if i got a complete aftermarket exhaust sytem and put it on a 96 or 97 it should have the same hp as the 98 if i put that same afermartet exhaust on the 98, am i right???

i'm looking into gettin a 96-98 gt,and when i saw that the 98 had 10 more hp i was confused.
But now that i know when i get a new exhaust system for it that it will have the same hp i don't have to worry about getting a 98 gtrather than a 96-97 gt.

the exhaust system has nothing to do with exhaust porting, that is done in the heads, so mod for mod the 98 will always have 10 hp more if the bit about the porting is true

Just another reason to buy a '96 and PI swap it. ... And even if you don't, what's 10 more horsepower? It's not going to make the car noticeably faster.

It was because of some mild tuning and only 4 cats instead of 6..
