Exhaust rattle
Okay, I've had a rattle in my exhaust for quite some time now. It seriously sounds like a bolt is being tossed around, so I suspect it could be anything (lol)...What should I do to locate it, and how extensive would it be to locate the source of the sound?
I was figuring maybe I could spend a day and just drop the X-pipe and check the headers, etc...
Anyinsight is much appreciated (as always).

RE: Exhaust rattle
you have a leak, if you are describing it like I think you are. I had a leak, it sounded exactly like something was rattling around.
with my xpipe, I had a leak where it connects to the manifolds. the original stud had a little flange on it that would prevent the ball/socket joint from closing up, so I took it to a muffler shop and had them weld on a stud with no flange. it's obvious when you have a leak, you can see the black soot where the leak is located.

RE: Exhaust rattle
Okay...I just HAD to bring this thread back from the dead...But my buddy with a similar exhaust setup got a similar problem, listen to what he has to say...
dude, i figured out the reason y our exhaust is rattling. i looked on several mustang forums and they all said that any exhaust rattle on the setup that we have (off road x-pipe) it sometimes blows out the baffles on the flowmasters. so yea, we broke our mufflers from racing so much. thats y im gonna go w/ slp. but yea, thought u could use that.
Is this possible??? Has anybody else has this problem before?? I LOVE my flowmasters...I don't want to get rid of them.. [:@]

RE: Exhaust rattle
Yes that can happen. Especially since the flowmasters will rust on the inside which will make the baffles get weak after a while. You can always replace the mufflers with stainless ones. Flowmaster does make them.

Well, back out to the garage. Any tips/suggestions(maybe a new setup?) would be appreciated...
sprostang, nice color choice. Who said black was the fastest color? Hahaha.

RE: Exhaust rattle
haha after only maybe a year and a half they started rattling soi cut one off and turned it on its end and a whole pile of rusted crap came out, probably two or three handfulls. After shaking it lightly i could see right through it. but i like flowmaster a lot so i just bought two more instead of switching to a different brand
