2001 Convrt. Speaker Upgrades + Infinity BassLink

I am having problems with my stereo upgrades. I installed the
following speakers: (1) Infinity (# 6810cs) Component 6 X 8 in the
front doors (mid-bass speakers), with separate tweeters; (2)
Infinity (# 6022 cs) 6 1/2" round speakers (mid-bass) in the rear
seat panels; (3) Pioneer (# TS-A 878)3 1/2" 2-way in the rear seat
"tweeters" area; (4) Infinity Basslink 200 watt powered, 10" sub
woofer.

When I play at 1/2 volume, the stock amps cut out after about 15
seconds. I have isolated the speakers (ie, left front, right front,
left rear, right rear) and each cuts out in the same time period.
Whether I have the BassLink connected or not, the other speakers cut
out. The Basslink, when connected, is hooked to the output side of
the right stock amp (which powers the rear seat panel speakers).

The stock subs are 8 ohms. My new speakers are: front 4 ohms; rear 2
ohms.

Can anyone help me find a solution to this? Go back to the stock
speakers? Add aftermarket amps to replace the stock ones? (maybe two
Infinity 7521a's? or 2 MTX XT Thunder 702X?) (or maube, one Infinity
7541a? or MTX XT Thunder 704X?)

Or ?? Thank you.

Jim H.

From what I have seen the stock speaker system is completely incompatable with anything aftermarket. You basically need to replace the entire system to replace anything.

There is a way you can make it work but you will not be able to fade from front to back? How important this is is up to you, but I usually have the back same as front anyways especially if you have the infinity's with the frequency box on them! You need to run the speakers in series. Start by doing the front passenger side positive off the head unit and connect to the positve on the speaker, then take the negative and run that to the back positive and the back negative to the head unit negative! That will bring you back up to 8 ohms!
Running at the lower ohms gets the amps very hot very fast!
