Default Installing long tube headers

I was told to install long tubes, or even shorty headers on my 2002 GT, the entire engine has to be lifted up. Thats a lot of disconnects and time consuming. I was told 8-10 hours. Anyone know if this is true?

8-10 hours for someone who knows exactly what they are doing.

Took my and my buddy about 15 to take them off and put them back on when we swapped transmissions.Transmission took some of that time... but yeah its a long time; plus we knew what we were doing because we've done it before.

The first time installing LT's by msyelf it took me 4 days. I end up snapping my oil dipstick tube off in the block; that took a lot of time.

I actually JUST finished installing mine (with the help of my boyfriend who is a mechanic). It took us 3 days....BUT, we ran into many problems and I had to buy many parts I was not prepared to buy. The job itself is pretty basic. You take off all the suspension, K-member, ect (pretty much everything except the motor itself)--disconnect the battery and if you have a CAI, that will have to come off too. Other than that, you WILL have the jack the motor up to do the job. Just follow the instructions and you'll have no problem. If you have someone else helping you, 8 hours sounds about right.

My best time on a LT install is 3 hours. But that was with a lift and air tools. I've done 5 installs so far the first took 6 hours with air tools and the car on jack stands.

Well, thanks to everyone that responded. Now I know why the previous owner replaced everything except the stock manifolds. Sounds like itsmore trouble than its worth. I'll put the money somewhere else.

I bet if you get the right shorties you can get away with losening the mounts and slipping them in but for all its worth I'd go long tube .
heres a nice write up on LT installing http://www.fnsweet.com/garage/ltinstall.shtml

I'd commit suicide before even attempting any header install on 99+ cars without removing the engine or kmember.
