Yes. Just pop off the plastic that holds the boot in place. Then pull the whole piece out.

ah man. I just put it back on, and i have dailup. It was black. I had a sideways S curve, then it went into a old ugly clamp looking thing with two bolts, and thats all it was to it.

I'm not positive, but based on your description I'd say you have the stock shifter. Again, some pics would help.
