Default Mark VIII DOHC

What's the difference between the DOHC Cobra engines and the Mark VIII engines? I was told that the Mark VIII engine wasn't as good peformance wise, but they have almost the same HP ratings.

I want an engine to work on in my spare time, one that I can eventually, drop into a body have some good power.

im sure it has a different tune to it, what year is it? im sure you could compare it to that year of the cobra, i dont know much about the marks but would assume its a 90's model so i would think its simillar to the dohc in the 96-98 cobras

The Cobras weren't forged until '03 I believe. The only differences were the cams had a milder and torquier grind and the intake was not as good, but as far as the internals all the same.

The block is also the same exact casting as the 96-98 Cobra.
The heads are the same B heads. Slight variances in the valvetrain, tune and other small aspects of the car all come together to be slightly different than the cobra.

Its very similar.. It feels the same.. we test drove one for hte hell of it not long ago.. a 96 mark 8.. and i owned a 97 cobra. The motor looks nearly identical, sounded very similar, and felt about the same. Im sure the mark 8 was slower due to weight.. but I would bet that its mostly the tune thats different.

They are the strongest production blocks ford has put in a 4.6.... to bad the internals they used were **** or hte 96-98 cobra's would be absolute beasts.
