How do u tell when the clutch needs to be changed?cause my car every time u put it into gear when your sitting still it makes a thumping sound...ans ever louder noise when im driveing

If your car makes a thump noise when the Clutch pedal is depressed than that is certainly the throwout bearing. The thump noise is normal, unless it is really loud, then you may have a problem. The best way to tell when the clutch is going out is to cruise at about 35mph in 5th gear, give it a little gas and if the rpms climb but not the mph's than your clutch is on its way out.

You should smell it if its slipping as well. If its going out you will see the RPMs rise at WOT while not increasing speed.

You wont smell it unless it is slipping really bad. People talk about being able to smell a new clutch as it is being broken in, but after 500 miles I have yet to smell anything.

It depends on how bad it's slipping to. My mcleod made the car smell for a week once after I tried to do a burnout in 2nd gear

It should be fairly obvious if its slipping.
