Knocking sound related to timing chain?
I just thought about this and of course i know it does do me any good at this point but........When i was taking apart my engine i pulled off one of the chains and one of the links in the chain was very stiff. It took some effort to move from open to closed (whatever the motion is that a link makes ) so i was sitting down to buy a new chain just now and thought that it might have been the reason my motor was knocking....
The motor ran fine just knocked and my friend said that it would throw black smoke alittle when i go on it....
Im already in deep so i doesnt matter but just trying to discuss future possible problems.

Did you look on the backside of your valve covers where the timing chains go for marks? The chain should not be stiff like that. When I took mine off it was more limber than a bycicle chain. I don't know if it would cause a knock but it's definiantly a problem.

No never looked and car is in a different state right now, but like i said i just ordered new chains and guides and basically rebuilt the whole engine.......hopefully not just becuase of a stiff chain.
