Default Braking System Question

I'm going to be needing a brake job shortly and a friend of mine told me that the Cobra had a much better braking system than my 2004 GT and that I could put that braking system on my GT. Is this true? If so, what do I need to buy to do it (links would be helpful as well).

yeah, if by better you mean bigger. the calibers and pads are larger on a cobra, and the cobra brake kit will run you a pretty penny. Check AmericanMuscle.com for the kit

I looked on AmericanMuscle.com, I saw the 13" Cobra Brake Conversion Kit for right around $4-500. That's not bad at all (at least I don't think so). Is that the Kit you're referring to? If so, would I need to purchase anything else?

Or were you referring to the $1200 Brembo Kit?

no the cobra kit is the right one but you will probably need some brake lines and other miscellaneous parts. shouldnt be too hard of an install, just tedious. and if the calipers come painted a color you dont want, or unpainted, i suggest painting them. a painted caliper can really attract attention to the wheels (if you want it)

Be prepaired to pull the axels to replace the rear caliper backing plates. The rear Cobra PBRcaliper itself is identical to the GT but the rotor is a larger diameter. Hence why the caliper braket must be changed.

Sounds like quite a bit of work, is the breaking system on the Cobra that much better than the GT?

I was thinking of the cobra swap a while back but unless you arebuilding some over the top FI monster the cobra system might be a bit of overkill for you.

The brakes on a GT aren't that bad to begin with but I replaced my rotors with cross drilled and also swapped in ceramic pads and I must say the braking seems to be a little more responsive.

If you got the cash though and have your heart set on the cobra swap then you will probably be happy with them
