your engine is pinging, put some 89-93 octane in there and that will cure it, run a few tanks of that too. My engine was doing the same thing at 4k rpms or more, the higher octane fuel burns slower, so your engine won't set off the mixture pre-maturly, which is what is currently happening. After that I put the 87 back in and hasn't done it since.

Does it kind of sound like marbles rattling around in a glass?
If so, it's detnonation aka pinging.

Not a good thing

Generally though, that happens under load. Does it stop if you ease off on the gas but keep the rpms constant?
If so, that's what you have.

Try a a tank or two of 93 and see if it goes away.
If so, you may have carbon buildup and then you will want to try something like GM Top Engine Cleaner (or the Ford version) or .....

gasp..........................

Seafoam (which I would ONLY use if you KNOW FOR SURE you have carbon buildup and have tried everything else first).

All this is of course assuming your car is stock with no tune etc....

Can also come from blow-by which is excess oil getting past your piston rings
