87 vs 89 vs 91+ Octane
I tried a search first, but I cant find what I am looking for.
So, with rising gas prices recently, Ive been in a rather big fight with my wife over me using premium.
I have a 03 mach 1 with the mods in the sig. I know mach1s are supposed to run 91+ factory, not including a/m parts.
So, am I wrong in telling her i have to use 93? or can a lower octane be used safely? Thanks in advance

since you have a mach, i would definitely run premium.
if premium is like20 centshigher and you fill up 10 gallons, that is $2a tank. in my opinion$2 a tank isworth it to notping andblow my engine.
for some reason even i with a GT need premium or i will ping like crazy under WOT (i only did that once).

well see how you car doesnt have a disributor, and monitors timing advance off the knock sensor, you should have no problems running 87 octane in it,
ford just recomends the better gas because its marketed as a performance car

However, it says you have a diablosport tune in your car in your sig (OP). That being the case, its almost certianly tuned for 93. Your going to loose power, and fuel economy, with 87, not to mention it could be pinging. Doing so over time will probably damage the engine... but running a single tank of 87 should not do anything to a n/a car.

Best way to find the right octane for a car that the computer can back the timing off is to track the gas mileage during normal driving. The best gas mileage = the octane you should be running.
