Agreed...I think someone at that dealership either knew it was about to break, or someone there had a fun time test driving your car and someone at the dealership found out

No crap, I can tell you from experience man, Ford garages are notorious for being imbeciles. I had a rattling noise coming from my front brakes not too long after I bought my '96, and the Ford garage said "It's just the suspension settling." Well since the car had almost 60,000 miles on it, it seemed a little odd to me that it was "settling" which is BS in the first place. So I found out from my own research that the anti-rattle clips were missing from the front calipers...needless to say that was the last time I took my car into a Ford garage.

YIKES!!!!!
Now I'm really anxious to talk with the tech doing the work. This is my first forray into a Ford service center. I have an Excursion has yet to need service of any kind. My other cars are British.....both Ford products, but I do all the work on them myself. I'm not sure of the front end set-up, so I don't know if axles are a week point on these cars, or if its a correct diagnosis. It was out of incorrect fixes at the British dealers that I started to do the work myself. Maybe I'll start with this one too.

that's odd ..brake dust gets on the rotor and squeal but after washing it will go away.. but washing it an it appears is odd...some times a disc break will crystalize and cauase a squeal, some times you get a hair line crack in them...
a warpped rotor will get your pedal moving up & down but not a squeal..
just when washing a car watch out when spraying cold water on a hot rotor....

An update....
Dealer said the noise was caused by a bent REAR axle. They've had my car 2 weeks, first replacing the axle with the WRONG one, and then replacing it with another bent one? Thats just wonderful.

All I know is that I wash my car on Sunday, drive it to work the next morning and by the time I get there the brakes are making noise. I thought it was a result of something I had done during washing or waxing....but the dealer says the axle was bent. How it happened, I'll never know....or even it that was REALLY the correct diagnosis.
