Default 1994-1995 vs 1996-1997vs 1998

i have a couple questions

a) is the 5.0l 94-95 mustangs faster then the 95-96 first year 4.6l...if so is it really a noticable difference

b) for th 1998 with the boost up to 225 hp is this going to be a big difference on both the older 4.6l and 5.0l

is there really a big difference in performance in any of these and which engines do u guys prefer....i was lookin for a foxbody and i cant seem to find a nice one plus im in highschool so im lookin for something alittle newer and reliable....any input would be great

from what i understand, you'll do better on torque with the 5.0. I think the hp performance is relatively close

First off, the SN-95's gained 250lbs over the Fox bodies. The 4.6L mod motors are very expensive to gain hp. The heads don't flow as good as pushrod motors and you ned to strap on a supercharger to get anywhere. The pushrod motor is the better way to go. I wish I had a pushrod motor! they are much cheaper to build and they respond to modifications waaaaaay better than mod motors. For example...A camshaft for the 5.0L costs about $300, for my cobra engine...$1100 because there are 4.

honestly this kids figuring on getting a 94-98GT, whereas the 94/95 have 5.0 vs 96-98 4.6, both are 2valves and actually both don't gain too much over each other powerwise. Both are limiting around 300-320rwhp N/A, to get more than that you'd have to get into stroking, F/I, or other things expensive like that. But they can easily produce enough HP for what a highschool kid needs with minor mods.

There really isnt a difference between the 96-97 to the 98. I read in 5.0 mag that Ford just re-advertised them with more hp to get more people interested in them. Either way power can be had out of either motor. If your planning on going with a blower for either motor, thats where you will see a big difference. A blower kit for a 4.6 can run you about $2000 to $3000 more then the same kit for a 5.0. The problem with the early 4.6 motors is the heads/cam/intake. You swap out the heads, cams, and intake and your looking at having more power then the a 99+ Gt for the simple fact that the pistons in the 96-98 motors are smaller then the pistons in the 99+ GTs, meaning with a basic PI swap you'll be running more hp/torque then the 99+ stock PI cars. Granted its not a cheap swap and can be a PITA if you don't know what your doing but there are so many guides out there that can help you through it that its rediculous not to do it. Not to mention that once you swap the heads, cams, and intake your setting yourself up for a compression ratio that can still withstand a set of boost (granted nothing like 20 pounds but around 8 to 11 depending on how you run it). When you get down to it its a matter of how much money do you want to spend to go how fast. Either motor is a great motor when you get down to the basics, its just what do you prefer.

(I may be wrong on some of my info but I'm going off what I had seen dyno numbers on and read in 5.0 Magazine as well as other Mustang mags)

4v heads flow way better then pushrod engines.

Skynerd,

Where did you get the work done at? I'm looking to do a stroker kit w/supercharger (eventually). Sorry for stealing the thread.

there really isnt anything different from the 96,97-98, just a computer tune. other than that, the 94-95 are easier to mod, but i think the mod motors sound a hella lot better. imo. and as for power, you wont really notice anything different about them
