Anyone do it on a newer mustang (96+)? How does it ride?</P>

Don't give me grief about aftermarket lowering springs being better, cause thats pretty obvious. I just wanna lower my 02 about an 1 1/4 inch to take up some fender wall space and stiffen it up a little. Dont be shy, Im sure alot more of you do it than would care to admit.</P><edited><editID>mdvaldosta</editID><editDate>37889.4857523148</editDate></edited>

I am definitely planning to upgrade the suspension. I don't care what anyone says, Mustangs look better when they are a little lower to the ground. I am looking at the MRT kit personally which will lower it 1 1/2" in the rear and 1 1/4" in front. <IMG onclick="AddSmileyIcon'smileys/smiley2.gif'" alt=Wink src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0"></P>

I don't know about cutting your springs though. Aren't the shorter springs stiffer to prevent you from bottoming out? It seems if you cut the stock springs they will still be loose and you could do some damage on a bumpy road.<IMG onclick="AddSmileyIcon'smileys/smiley5.gif'" alt=Confused src=smileys/smiley5.gif border="0"></P>

I guess it can be done but you may not be too happy with the way your car handles. Aftermarket springs have different spring rates than stock. You may also need caster cambers.

DON'T CUT EM' YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE THEM OUT TO DO IT ANYWAY. SPEND THE $300 OR WHATEVERAND GET SPRINGS. BY CUTTING OR HEATING AND COMPRESSING THE SPRINGS YOU ACTUALLY CHANGE THE DESIGN PROPERTIESOF THE SPRING. IMO SUSPENSION IS YOUR LINK BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR CAR AND THE ROAD YOU SHOULD MAKE IT AS GOOD, SOLID AND SAFEAS POSSIBLE.

I can get a good set of springs for 100 bucks, but hey If I can save a buck or two I will. I just wanted to hear advice from people who have done it b4

I'VE DONE IT (NOT TO A MUSTANG) AND FRIENDS HAVE DONE IT. A $100 IS A CHEAP INVESTMENT FOR A NICE 02 CAR

If it's only 100 bucks do it...</P>

A lot of the older Muscle Car lovers just cut stock springs. It does change the characteristics of handling, but if you cut each spring precisely, and if you do it without heating them, all 4 springs will be safe and serve their purpose. The ride will be alittle stiffer than a set of purchased lowering springs.</P>

THATS THE NICE THING ABOUT THE AFTERMARKET SPRINGS..THEY ARE TUNED TO PROVIDE THAT KILLER DROP WITH A DECENT RIDE.
