priming the oil pump for 1st startup
I've heard that you can hold the gas pedal to the floor while trying to start the car and it'll prime the oil pump. Does anyone know if this is true?

You are correct. The car will not turn over if the pedal is held to the floor... it will just crank indefinitely. Once you're ready to start it for real, turn the ignition off, foot off the pedal, then start like normal.

No, I don't think that will work. I had a similar misconception with my motor as well. I was told you need to manually pump the oilwith a pump (like a garden sprayer)to prime the system. I said F all of it and just started the car-no problems so far. There is a TSB on this, it is 01-24-6, I can't find the actual procedurethough...
The ignition thing described above might work, but I doubt it will prime the oil system for a first startup (anew motor right?).

how long does it take to prime the oil pump. I tried cranking it to prime the pump abut 6 times at around 10 seconds each time. The gauge never moved. I pulled the oil filter off and tried it and no oil came out.
