HOW TO: Fix the 4.6L GT Ticking noise...

Damn it.
I might have the ticking problem but I'm not sure. There's definitely a ticking sound coming from the passenger side but it only does it when I accelerate. If I put it in neutral and gas it there's no sound. If the car's just idling I can't hear it either. So all you mechanically inclined good folks, do I have the dreaded ticking problem or something else? Thanks in advance.

On Ford Rebuilds Too?
I bought my 2000 Mustang GT in Jan. of '06. By Dec. of '06 I had to replace engine with new rebuild from dealer (thank God for warrenties). I think I spun a bearing, not sure, mechanic didn't say. All that was said was that engine was no good.
Any way, the question is was this problem resolved on the newer rebuilds?

Well, I just recently purchased a 2002 Mustang GT. I noticed today that it had a ticking noise coming from the passenger side of the engine. I searched online and it brought me to this thread. Luckily, it's still under warranty since I bought from a dealership. But at least now I will know what I'm talking about when I take the car in.

the reason for this is because all the 4.6 l up to 2002 werent threaded deep enough for the spark plug to sit in wen its in corectly they only sit in a thread and a half there hasnt been away to prevent it that i have found out on it its happened to several of my buddies gts

I have an 02 GT that ticks at idle.
It blew the #4 plug and I paid for FOrd to replace it. I replaced lots of parts and even pulled the heads off and replaced the valves/springs/keepers/bolts, etc.
I put the engine together and it still ticks. You can only hear it at idle, and it takes about 45 seconds for the tick to start if the car is cold.
Also takes it about 10 seconds to start after the cars comes off a rev back to idle.
I did a leak down on the insert and it was the same as the others so I put it back on the car.
So I'm thinking this is either an exhaust leak or oiling. I always ran royal purple 20/50 in the car before the plug blew and it didn't make the ticking noise so I'm wondering if oil has something to do with this?
I didn't see any visual wear on engine internals when I had it apart. I wished I would have replaced the piston wrist pins and bearings when I had the heads off.
But for now, the car has to be driven to work everyday.

So getting back to this topic of shredded timing chain guides and tensioner arms.. if one had this condition, and caught it at the beginning, how would you go about cleaning out the engine to ensure reliable operation? I'm facing this myself on a 4.6L 2V out of a 2002 Grand Marquis. 2000GTFOOL never told us what caused his motor to die, so I'm trying to determine what amount of work is necessary to ensure reliability. Thanks!
