Intake, K&N, Superchips, h
Ok this is a real newbie question but i just bought my 01 mustang GT from my dads friend that owns a car lot, he looked for a long time and found this one. Well he is a vett person and my dad hates me having a fast car so he wont help. According to the reciepts it has a K&N, with a MAC? intake, Flowmaster exhaust, and superchips installed. I know what all of these do i just dont know how to prove this is what is really on the car, where is the computer chip, how do i figure out if the exhaust is really flowmaster, (other then it sounds hella nice), also after i turn of my car i can hear something powering down for about 10 minutes, what is this? I really have no idea and im looking for help

MinorThreat,

I can help with with a few things:

INTAKE: If you have a MAC intake it will be where the stock airbox and air intake used to be. Instead of a black airbox with a bloack tube you will have an "S" shaped shiny aluminum pipe that runs from the throttle body and bolts to the left front fender behind the left front headlamp.

K&N: The filter will be on the end of the intake described above.

SUPERCHIP:Locate the Engine Controller Unit (ECU) on your vehicle. Look on the back side of the ECU (the side opposite where all the wires come in). If you have a "Superchip" you will see a little blue box off the back of your ECU. The little blue box will look like the little blue box you see on this page:

EXHUAST: Look on the muffler and see if it says "FLOWMASTER". If it does then it is a flowmaster. If it doesn't it still may be a FLowmaster but identifying it will be a little tougher. You may find some good info here:

As far as what is powering down I haven't a clue.

Good Luck.

Hey bud one thing to keep in mind about the MAC cold-air intake, they can do more damage than good. MAC in all their wisdom chrome plated their CIA to look really nice under the hood...well that wasn't very smart for performance, because if your car sits out in the sun for any period of time long enough for the CIA pipe to get hot, you will actually end up with 5-10 HP LESS than stock, until you drive long enough for the pipe to cool down from the incoming air, because as long as the pipe is hot, the incoming air is also being heated, which kills engine performance. Just something to keep in mind....
