help with heads, cams, etc
Hey everyone. I'm trying to do as much homework as possible on the right heads, cams, etc but i'm not too good on this engine stuff. Right now i have a pretty much stock '96 GT with full exhaust and cold air intake. I'm lookin' for more HP with a nice set of heads, cams, etc. Basically I need some advice on what stuff to get. I don't need the most expensive stuff but some that will gain me some nice HP. Installation price is not in the mix because some people around where I live are going to do it for free.
I know about the search button, but i have dial up and it sucks lol.

RE: help with heads, cams, etc
There are several companys making ported heads out there, but there arn't any true aftermarket sets available.
MMR, patriot, and a few others make heads, as well as cams etc.
Your going to want to talk to any company you buy from to make sure your not going to have any issues running their heads/cams on a NPI engine from your 98 GT.
I would recommend running a stock PI intake with aluminum crossover, plus your choice company of heads/cams in the stage 2 area. These will work well on a stock shortblock car and make good power. You should make 310ish WHP with this setup, compared to maybe 210 you are making now.

RE: help with heads, cams, etc
Thats basically the same setup I was looking at running with my GT. With the newer heads (I'm 90% certain doesnt matter company wise on how much it will bump compression) you should run a higher compression from around 9:1 to around 10.5:1 which will increase power over the typical stock pi car (not substantly but still an increase) add in a set of stage 2 cams which are supposed to net atleast 15hp in and of themselves with the addition of all the rest of your bolt-ons like underdrive pullies (should you choose to do so), throttlebody and intake plenum combo (look into the 75mm) , and you'll see a different side of your 4.6 then your used too!

RE: help with heads, cams, etc
Basically by the end of next summer i was hopin' to have all of the following done to my car: Stage 2 heads/cams, 75 mm t/b and plenum, udp's, and 3.73's. All of that along with what i have now: o/r x, slp loudmouth, and cai. What HP do think i'll be around if i get all of that done?

RE: help with heads, cams, etc
I'm just makin' sure on something. With my completely stock '96 GT AUTO engine, I can put on stage 2 heads/cams? Are there any other things that i have to buy to go along with that or is that it? Also, I recently put on a new intake manifold - the non pi manifold. Will I have to buy a pi intake manifold aswell?

yea pi manifold for sure and idk about the stage 2 cams cuz i know as for comp cams the stage 2 have no piston to valve clearance so u need to notch ur pistons so i would check that out but *** for mmr thats wat they say

RE: help with heads, cams, etc
Just throwin' this out there, this is not a track car at all. Just a nice daily driver that i'm tryin to put some power into. Is the PI manifold amust? Or is just "recommended?" Because i just put that non-pi manifold in.
