i whipped out one of my 2002 car and driver mags to check this out. I was wrong they are bi-metal motors. Aluminum headed iron blocks just like the GT's.

cobra blocks are aluminum too...
not 03-04 .
i thought they were. how else can they hold so much hp on the stocker?

The block isn't why they can handle alot of power. It's the internals(pistons, rods, etc....)

I'm not an expert on this, but I'm pretty sure the cast block is there for the purpose of holding it together. Otherwise, why would they have put that heavy cast block in the SVT and have to engineersuspension aroundit so it wouldn't feel so front heavy?

I am well aware that the Cobra motor is FI and Mach is not. I was just wondering the difference in the two actual motors themselves, no FI included.

Let's rephrase then. Machs are set-up for NA and SVT are set-up for FI. SVT is low compression with a complete set of forged internals. Only the 5spd Mach has a forged crank because of the higher rev-limit, everything else is standard or non-forged. Auto Machs have a cast crank because Auto trans can't spin that high (5500vs. 6800) of an RPM safely (In ford's eyes). Machs have hotter cams than SVTs as well and much higher compression.

Here's some good info on the 03 SVT engine http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2002/02/2003cobra/

Here's a little on the Mach

Well i was looking at the same thing. Problem is i want a high HP n/a engine. so could i just get a Mach and switch out the internals for forged or would it be better to buy a cobra and store the s/c up and then when i want to charge it go out and get a better supercharger? or TT?

Also on my own accord would either engine mate up with the engine bay on a 97 GT? since they are the same basic platform?
