Default Please Help

Im having some issues with my stang and would like some insight as to what it could be. First and foremost, its a 98 GT with about 75,000. Ive had the car for about two months.. only modification I can see are a K&N intake. The previous owner also found necessary to cut off the muffers after the cats and make it unbearably loud.

Basically, when I go to start my car in the morning, it starts just fine, then immeadiatly stalls out. If I keep my foot on the gas slight though, the car will idle just fine. Its to the point where Im driving to work with one foot on the gas, one on the break. The car will pull clean if im driving, but whenever I take my foot off the gas it stalls right out.

Ive done some searching online and have found that the IAC valve on the car sometime gets clogged and affects the idle. So I took it off and cleaned it out with some electrical parts cleaner. This didn't seem to help the problem at all. Im really stumped as to whats wrong with it. Im new to stangs, so if anyone has any ideas, PLEASE let me know

Thanks!

Chris

I have everything from the cats forward. The previous owner decided to cut the muffers completely off... its really loud and it has a drowning sound at partial throttle. To me it sounds terrible, I really need to get some mufflers asap.

But thats not the problem....

Have someone check the battery and charging. If that's ok then change the TPS (throttle positioning sensor). Normally when a IAC goes bad the car will still idle, just really really low and will stall after a rev. When the TPS goes bad the car will immediately go dead after startup if you don't keep your foot on the gas. I've fixed several cars with this problem and the last one I fixed the TPS was just stuck. I had the guy fire the car up as I tapped on the TPS with the butt end of a screw driver. It only took a couple of taps to free it up and it's worked fine ever since.

Your car will run crappy with no exhaust on it, too. But I'dcheck your charging system, too. And if that didn't help, I'd start backprobing some connections to see what's going on. You can find service manuals online to make electric diag a lot easier.

Sweet, thanks for all of the quickresponses.

A stuck TPS definatly sounds like a possibility... when this problem happens it smells like theres some excess fuel getting dumped. Any pics of where the TPS box is located? Id love to try to fix this myself and save the money.

Yea, it's a small black box looking thing mounted to the throttle body with some wires plugged into it. As a matter of fact, it's the only thing mounted directly to the throttle body with wires going to it. Good luck.
