Default Convertible Top Problems.

Hi, I just stumbled on this forum, and was hoping someone here could help me out. I have a '98 GT Convertible, and just this week, something odd starting happening... The switch, that puts the top up/down, located on the center console works(you can hear the motor) in the UP position, but not the DOWN position (no motor noise at all). Where should I start? I've already taken the switch out, apart, cleaned the contacts and put it back in... The contacts inside the switch are TOTALLY worn, but, when I tried to jump the pigtail plug, I can put the top UP, but nothing at all when I try to jump it down... Help !! Thanks!

Well, I'm hoping it's NOT that... The switch, which is only $20, is coming in Monday.. But, since I can't get the top to go down by jumping the pigtail plug, I dont think the switch will do it... And, since I haven't found a replacement motor for under $200, I'm hoping it's NOT that... Any suggestions, on where I can track down a cheap motor if it IS that?

Thanks!!

Ok, here's the deal now... I got the new switch today, at Ford, put it in, and still nothing.. When you hit the UP direction on the switch, the motor whines (working fine) , but , when you hit DOWN it's just NOTHING... So, what are your thoughts? Motor? I just can't imagine why the motor would be junk when it's the same motor that controls UP & DOWN isn't it??

By the way, what is "Stang Parts"? If you could post a link, I'd appreciate it...

Well, I checked the fuses, first, and they are all ok... But, I'm gonna check the wiring today, to check for any lose connections... If not, everything seems to be pointing towards the motor..... Thanks for the help, so far, guys!!
