automatic Transmission Fluid Type?

Default automatic Transmission Fluid Type?

I have a 97 auto, what type of Transmission fluid does it take?

You don't have a manual to look that up? It doesn't say on your dipstick? I believe mine says Mercon V

nope if i did I would not have ask....
I thought a parts store could tell me, they told me atf+4 I thought I would ask. that just did not seem right to me.

merc V ...just did a engine swap in mine and had to refill...that and my uncle works at ford and thats who I got it from...If you are doing a flush it takes between 12-14qrts.

Wow you have idiots working in your local parts store. Like said, ATF+4 is strictly chrysler products. Most newer fords take Mercon 5. or V. But they change so much, its hard to tell sometimes.

Thats if your draining everything out and refilling with new fluid. .I got mine from autozone for $2 qrt..Is yours low or something?

naa I need to change the filter and fulid, the car has been shifting hard until it gets warm, I talked to the last owner and he said he has never changed the fulid and he has had the car for allmost 100k miles
