A little background...I have a '04 GT that is stock except I had the factory mufflers replaced with Flowmaster 40's. It sounds pretty good, but I want it louder. The car is under warranty so I can't remove the cats. I know the car has a factory H behind the cats, will adding an aftermarket H or X and leaving the rest of exhaust as is make the car obviously louder? I don't really want to install a whole new cat back system at this time. Thanks in advance.
Yeah it will make it louder. Obviously, it would be louder without the cats, but voiding the warranty isn't worth the sound.

H Pipe- Deep, throaty tone
X Pipe- Raspy,higherpitchedtone

How much warranty is left? My '04 has been out of warranty for several months now. Nevertheless, the 4.6 is a solid engine if you take care of it (ie.oil changes. ect) There is nothing that changing the mid-pipe will cause to go wrong. (as far as I know) I personally wouldn't worry about the warranty anyway. If is the standard 3-36000 then maybe, but that is only food for a few more months depending on when you bought the vehicle. If you bought the extended warranty, I highly recommend you go back to the stealership and cancel what is left and get the money back....I doesn't really cover anything. I had an '04 expedition that had a couple of problems that I had taken the vehicle in for repairs while still under the factory 3-36000. They said there was nothing wrong. Once I had gone over the 36000 (only by 3000 miles btw) I took it back for the exact same problem that I had been having all along. They said the problem was mine because it wasn't covered by the extended warranty.
