Default Blown Motor...Rebuilding Options

Hey all-
Over the summer I had a hellion turbo kit installed on my 2000 GT, and two months later...BOOM. Any way I am rebuilding her, and looking to get 500-600hp out of it. I am planning on going with a 800hp shortblock from MMR, and was thinking about doing heads and cams while I was at it. I want it to still be streetable but as you can tell I also want the big hp numbers...so I was wondering what Heads and Cams setup I should go with. Also any and all suggestions on the entire build up are welcome. Thanks for the help all!

Great choice on engines! I know a few people in Maryland that are running the MMR blocks and said their quality and service is outstanding. I too will be buying an MMR block for turbo charging within the next year, but mine will be a 4v. You might want to think about ditching the 2vs, and finding a wrecked cobra and taking the heads off of it because the 4v flows alot better than the 2v. All MMR blocks work with 2v,3v and 4v, so all you have to do is bolt them on. With a few additional parts from the junk yard the engine and turbo set up would definitely be able to put down some high numbers.

Other then that, I believe MMR also sells ported heads and custom cams. If you go that route you might just want to buy a long block from them. After you put all the cost together it will only cost an addition $300 for the labor to build the block and comes with a warranty.

How many milesdid you put on the motor before it went? what abouthp numbers too?

I know VT engines and DSS racing sell long blocks with p&p heads and cams on it for $4K..most shortblocks are around $3K so I would spend the lil extra money since its already on it and torqued to specs

Feels like barely any miles at all. As for numbers I was putting down 410hp and 460tq on 10.5#
Not too shabby I thought. Yeah I was thinking about doing a MMR Shortblock with Stage 2 Foxlake heads cause the oversize the valve (hope it would help compinsate for only being a 2v) and getting some of MMR custom turbo cams....although on another forum a guy is offering me an 03 cobra short block for only 1600 and the motor only had around 18000 miles on it. What do you guys think of that block?

sounds good to me..I would tear it down and clean it all up and put all new bearing in it. thats just me I come from a machinist family and Ive seen people put low mileage engines in and something goes wrong. but that deal is to good to pass up. dont forget your 8 bolt flywheel upgrade

Its not a 4v setup, its just the cobra short block, which is the same as a GT's except forged I believe. He told me that this was what the compression test read right before he pulled the motor...
1-182
2-180
3-175
4-177
5-175
6-176
7-174
8-175
Now, at the risk of sounding like a noob...thats still good right?
