Default 99 GT 275 40 17?

I read on here that you can fit 275 on my stock rims.
but i work at sears and they said no it will pinch the tire to much.
Is that tire size safe for a dailey driver car?

275's are a little wide and unsafe on a 17 X 8 rim IMO. The fit the 17 X 9 rim perfectly.

Your opinion is wrong. They are not unsafe.

TONS of people drive on 275/40/17's on a 8" rim.
Nobody has had any failures because of it either.

i put 275's on my stock 99 GT wheels and the car was very unstable around corners, i have 275/35/18's on a 18X10 rim car handles the ***** now....it can be done never had any failures with my wheels drove them for 6K but i never felt safe going around corners fast

I had MT's, so I never really got on it in the corners. They didn't feel that great around corners any time.

I actually just got 275/40/17 on my stock rims in the rear. I'm not sure if its the rim width or the cheap falken tires, but the car does not seem stable anymore at 100+ on the highway. So if you not road racing 100+ your fine.

I've been running 275/40 in the rears for years and I've never had a problem, not even in the corners. Get good tires and you won't have problems like that.

yeah i've had 275/40-17s on all four rims for about 40,000 miles now and have had no problems. and i've never had any issues with cornering, if anything the car feels better through the corners than with the 245/45-17s, but it could just be the tire also. i've run both Bridgestone and Cooper tires in 275/40 and have had no issues at all.
