gear question
Wazup people
I know that ya'll are tired about questions dealing with gears, but i'm just curious about my stock gears. I have a 96 GT (auto trans) and i've read where they came with 2.73 gears standard i think. Well, i've also seen where some were available with 3.27's or something close to it. My car came from the factory with all the upgrades and options on it that i know of. My stepmom has an 04 40th aniv. GT (stock and auto trans) and 99+ GT's came with 3.27's stock right? I drove it today for the first time and at 65mph it was at 2000rpm's. My car at 65mph is also at 2000rpm's. Is it safe to assume that i have 3.27 gears? I figured since they're both the same rpm's at 65mph then they have the same gears, but if i'm wrong let me know. I'm just curious is all. I plan on putting 3.73's on in the summer, but like i say i'm just curious. Thanx.

RE: gear question
Yes, your car has 2.73's most likely, and your mom's GT has 3.27s. I have 3.73s and I love them. Sorry, this is off topic but do you have any pics of your car you can post, or up close pics of your rims. Im thinking about polishing mine....

RE: gear question
There's a bigger pic of my car on another post i did a while back. It was titled 96-98 pic request, and it cant be but a few pages back on the forum here. I'd load another up, but i got dial-up and it takes forever.

4.10 gears are the only way to go with an auto, I would also recommend a shift kit, and a custom tune chip were you can change the line pressure so your tranny will shift much harder and better.

RE: gear question
Thanx for the info on the aftermarket gears ya'll, but i'm pretty dead set on the 3.73's. I don't know why i'm so curious about what kind i have now, but it aggrivates the hell outta me that i'm not 100% sure what's on there. A shift kit is also a plan for the future, but on to my original question, does it seem like my 96GT has 3.27's since my rpm/mph is the same as my step moms 04GT rpm/mph (2000rpm at 65mph for both cars)?

RE: gear question
Ok, so i got if figured out. Thanx for the tip acer2428. I don't know why i didn't look down there to begin with, just didn't think about it i guess. But it says 3.27 and it's also got a few other numbers on there, but i couldn't make any sense outta those. Thanx again ya'll.
