Have a little gear whine...

Have a little gear whine...
I got my gears installed (3.73's) and they have a little whine in them... actually a lot since I can hear it over the slp lm1's and o/r h pipe in third through fifth gear. I have some questions. Should I stop driving it and wait till I get it fixed, drive it while looking to get it fixed, or don't worry about it?
And, if anyone around the louisville, kentucky area has had gears installed without whine, please tell me where you got them installed. So I don't have to go through another head-ache from worrying about my car.

RE: Have a little gear whine...
Have the installer correct the install pronto. What kind of gears? From what I have read, NO gears should whine when installed correctly. But my peronal experience was a very good installer tried 3 times to quiet down a set of Motive 3.73's before giving up and putting in a set of FRPP's.
Not a peep out of the FRPP's for 12K miles.

Thanks for the input, I haven't driven my car since I got a little eerie about it. I bought 3.73 gear made by motive, and heard that motive either made the frpp gears or vice-versa. But that is just what I have read about. Thanks for the input.

I've heard the same thing about Motives and FRPP's being the same. That's why I tried Motives to begin with, but if you go to the FRPP site and look at their gears, you will see that the FRPP 3.73 has a specific cutting process (Face Hob). It is specific to the 3.73. My installer mentioned this as well.
All of it may be BS, but the change to FRPP worked for me.
By the way, make SURE they put in the friction modifier so you don't get the LSD groan a week later like I did.

RE: Have a little gear whine...
I lot of folks have problems with the limited slip differential groaning during slow turns. It's caused by the outside wheel rotating at a faster rate than the inside wheel. The fix is a 4oz bottle of friction modifier added to the gear oil. If you have never had it, don't worry about it and consider yourself lucky. It wouldn't hurt anything to have them add it as insurance. They are gonna be changing the oil againanyway.

i had the "LSD groan" but the friction modifier fixed that problem. and as for the gears whining, some people say that if installed correctly, no gear should whine, and others will tell you that certain brands will whine no matter what. i've got FRPP 3.73s and haven't had any noise from them at all.

RE: Have a little gear whine...
i first had motive 3.73's and they whined like crazy so then i got a set of fr 4.10s and the same place installed them both times and the ford racings dont whine at all so i would say it was mostly because they were motives the first time.
