Just be easy on it until your first oil change (500 miles), although they don't require break in like the old cars did, its still a good idea to develope good wear patterns. Think about it, if you got a new set of gear, or a transmission, or a new motor put in your car, would you go easy on it for a bit?

One thing to keep in mind, for the first few hundred miles, don't use synthetic oil in your engine. Best to use regular oil to allow the mating surfaces better contact during break-in.

all good points...I think MD is listening to me*L*.just drive it normal for about 500 miles so mostly the brakes and suspension parts break in..as said today engine aren't built with really tight spec. so to speak...oil changed @ 500
then 2000 miles..change to synethic and about 3500 after that a k/n or amsoil filter would be the way to go then your on your way to driving like you stole it...the injectors take a few 1000 miles to break in so to speak unless you have them flowed<img border="0" src=smileys/smiley16.gif border="0">

I just got a new engine and the mustang tech said take it easy for 500 miles. Then were going to put it up on the dyno and make sure I'm not running lean and the air to fuel is working properly. <IMG src=smileys/smiley3.gif border="0"></P><edited><editID>mustangforums</editID><editDate>37907.9239236111</editDate></edited>

Thanks for all the info. I don't have the car yet. The deal goes down Tuesday.</P>

I was going to baby the car for about 1000 miles, thenstart to use a little gas for another 1000 milesand not run Mobil 1 till 3000 miles.</P>

Not sure why I would need to change the oil at 500 miles. Maybe check and top off, but the original oil shouldn't break down or anything. Could you please add more information as to why I would need to change the oil so much at first.</P>

Thanks</P>

You need to change the oil at 500 miles to get rid of any metal particles that have been produced from all the matel surfaces wearing a pattern and setting in with each other....</P>

shhhhhhhhhhh*L*....not only from wear but from casting flash. also on the 1st oil change after all oil is drain add 1 quart of oil to help push all of what's left in the bottom of oil pan out..put in a magnetic oil pan plug and fill her up with good oil
