Hello. So for about the past two months my Mustang has been making this odd sound only when in 5th gear, or just when you pull it out of 5th and into neutral.

I got the car about 3 months ago, and I love it, except for this sound. It sounds like the wind is blowing up underneath the bottom of the car, but obviously it's not because it's only in 5th gear, and it happens every time. Sometimes it's on and off, and after an hour of driving its gone, but for the most part its always on. Any ideas on what it might be?

My car is all stock except for an after market cool-air-intake that came with it (bought the car used in December). My car is due for an oil change this week, so I want to sound somewhat smart when I take it in and ask about it

Does anyone have any ideas on what this sound might be? I would really like to find out.

Hmm sounds like wind is blowing up undeneath? Are sure it's not a whining sound?

Pretty sure. It's not a high pitched sound, like a whine would be. It really does sound like the wind is blowing up underneath it. Maybe it is, but why only in 5th gear? What would it be if it was whining sound?

It could possibly be a bearing either in the trans or in the rear end. Really hard to say exactly what it is.

i could be from the shifter because on my triax i get the same noise in 5th gear
