Default Whirling Sound

My Gt is an automatic, and when it gets up to higher rpms, there is a whirling sound coming from the engine. It almost sounds like a supercharger (used to have a cobra with a supercharger). Any ideas on what it might be? Is something about to break?

Possibly power steering pump that is low on fluid if noise is from front of engine. My wifes V6 had same problem.

Power steering pump would make a noise like that when accelerating fast? Any way to test to see if it the power steering pump? The only noise I have ever heard from that is when you steer to either side farther that normal. But this sound has to do with the rpms.

I have a cold air intake, but this is a very different sound. It actually sounds really good, but I am afraid that means its bad. lol

Is it doing it only in overdrive? Next time when it's doing it, take it out of overdrive and see if the noise goes away. And if you can, drop it another gear. This way you can eliminate the trans as a possible suspect.Good luck. [sm=smiley20.gif]

It does it in overdrive and with overdrive off. I also tired it in 1 and 2, and it still makes the same sound.
Being an automatic, I can't choose any other gear. I'm just worried that it might be something serious.

I have 3.73's, but the noise just started while the gears have been in for about 6 months. Can they just start to whine?
