Pinging under acceleration

RE: Pinging under acceleration
If it is guarenteed to fully combust then why would u have pinging/knocking?? Cause it is self-igniteing in a different spot in the chamber, if you have ever looked at the gas 87 is a light brown color and 93 looks clear like water, why? cause it is a cleaner fuel, plus it burns better than 87, 93 burns a little longer in the combustion chamber than 87 thus creating a "bit" more power, and it gets rid of pinging

Bull shat. There's more stuff in a93 than there is in 87, plus 87 is gaurunteed to fully combust, making it much cleaner.

I don't see how 93 would hurt your car in the long run, it is cleaner than 87 thats for sure, you would prob see more carbon deposits in the long run with 87 than 93, but try 89 or 91 if you have it in your area to see if it stops the pinging, i use 93 on the weekends and 89 during the week...

But would that high of an octane in a N/A car hurt my engine in the longrun? (carbon deposits)

WOT=wide open throttle and pinging sounds like small rocks being shaken in a plastic container.

RE: Pinging under acceleration
Knocking and pinging result when the fuel/air mixture self-ignites somewhere else in the cylinder, away from the spark plug...sometimes due to low octane like 87

RE: Pinging under acceleration
Had the same problem with my '96. I replaced MAF sensor, plugs, wires, air filter, ran fuel injector cleaner multiple times, etc. Everything I did helped a little. It wasn't until I ran 93 octane the problem was finally resolved. I also ran 89 and it seemed to alleviate the problem...most of the time. I begin to suspect someone may have tweaked/replaced the chip to cause this, but I have never dug into it to find out.
Just a side note. As gas prices climbed I began to wonder why I was filling it with gas $0.20 higher than the recommended octane. So I went back to 87...and was reminded shortly thereafter.
The only downside I noted running 93 was "harder" starts. That is I had to crank for 1 or 2 seconds longer when cold.

RE: Pinging under acceleration
Thanks for all the info. I got about a quarter tank of gas. This weekend I'll run it as close as I can to bein empty and fill up with a higher octane, probably 91
