Default RPM too high!!! Help pls.

01 Mustang GT

The RPM of my car is too high whether it's on park or drive. When I start my car the tachometer jumps instantly to 2200 RPM and remains there. It's almost as if I'm stepping on the accelerator, even though I'm not. When I put the caron drive, it jolts, and drives at 30 mph without stepping on the gas pedal. I would appreciate any suggestion of what could be causing this problem.

I have tried the following but none of them worked:
[ul][*]Unhooked the negative terminal of the battery overnight.[*]Changed the TPS sensor. [/ul]
Again, I would appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Did you adjust the screw on the TB counter clock wise. That adjust the rpm up and down. I had mine too low and adjusted it in park and in gear. Have you changed your TB, Try reving you engine from the TB and adjust the screw and see what happens. When adjusting, do one turn at a time, then half turns and so fourth. you should be somewhere around 800 rpm's in nuetral once warmed up.

Could be your "idle air control" valve causing this

make sure your air filter aint dirty to i thought its was my IAC or my the IAC gasket mod that i made but in the end my filter was black went and got the Recharge kit cleaned it and car runs at 750...rather then 1700 that it use to...get some carb cleaner and spray a **** load of it in the IAC take about 5min to take off and put back on and cost $2 not $60

There is still a problem if your IAC wants to hang at 2200 at 0% Throttle position. I would look for some kind of vacuum leak before replacing the IAC. You can take carb cleaner and spray around at thevacuum fittings, one at a time, and the engine rpms will change accordingly. What was the last thing you did to your car, any codes?

not to jack the thread but.. i got a code thrown at me and it was that i was running lean (checked on my tuner) and i installed a o/r x pipe earlier but had a bad exhaust leak, got that fixed and still does it.. i haven't really check the IAC cuz there is a screw thats striped and i can't get it out. how would i know if i had a intake manifold crack?

Today, I tried several things that I found searching the net. First, I unplugged the harness off the MAF sensor and the problem went away. However, the car was sluggish without the MAF sensor on. So, I cleaned the sensor with a product I got from Autozone. But after I reinstalled the sensor, the problem was still there. I then upluged the harness off the IAC and nothing happened.

I want to say that the problem is coming from the MAF sensor. But since cleaning it did not do anything, I'm kind a skeptical. I want to try getting a replacement part but if isn't the problem, the store might not accept my return. What do you guys think????
