Default Timing chain tentioner question

I bought my car with a slight knocking in it, and after reading the common tentioner problem, I figured I'd check it out.

Well, sure enough, I pulled the cover, and the pass side chain was loose. It must not have been bad long, because the guides amd armsstilllooked ok.

Now formy question.. I kinda expected the tentioner to have more force when the pin was pulled, maybe I was just thinking grenade!...lol. I know these operate off oil pressure, but the one that came out had a lot more "spring" to it. How much force should these have when installed before startup? Mine didn't have enough to tighten the chain, is it a defective part? I can move the lever by hand on the pass side, but not the drivers.

TIA for any help!

Default RE: Timing chain tentioner question

BTT

I had time to do a little more reading, and from what I've found, it seems there should be enough force to tighten the chain when the pin is pulled. I think I just got a defective part and will change it out, but I would still like confirmation from someone who has done this before I run into the same thing.

Isure hope this fixes the noise, it's a PITA to work on since I'm used to Trucks and Jeeps...not used to having to bend over to work onan engine...lol
