Default cams/heads questions

1) Stage 1 cams are as far as you can go on stock heads correct?

2) If so, is it worth the money to save and get stage 2+heads?

3) Is the HP difference between stage 1/stage 2 worth the cost if you do NOT plan on using Nitros/super charge, but want a loopy idel?

4) what does a typical muscle shop charge to install cams?

u can use bigger cams on your stock head but u just need to change out the valve springs......but alot of people recommend porting your heads when you start getting into those bigger cams

If your going to swap to a cam that requires a after market valve spring i would strongly advise you get the heads ported as much as you can possibly afford. Since the heads have to come off anyways in most cases. The heads on the 2v motor is the bottle neck. Also check with the maker of the cams you choose and see if it will have PTV issues on a stock application *and do a good search on here*. The ones in my sig needed my pistons to be notched. As far as cost i would not be able to give you a good idea, my cams were installed during my rebuild. It was just a flat rate for the whole thing.

on an otherwise stock shortblock, stage II cams are really just for the lopey sound. Stock block doesnt rev high enough (safely) to where the stage II cams make the most power. If you plan on upgrading in the future though, might as well get the stage II cams. that being said, if you go stage II, you NEED springs....and you'll see way more power gains like said before with ported heads.

With full bolt ons, a GOOD dyno tune + heads and cams i would feel safe to say 300rwhp. Give or take a few. Pretty much whats in my sig besides the bump in comp.ratio and the cutouts.
