Default 351 build or 5.4 swap???????

So the time has come to build a motor. What would I see more gains from, building from block up a 351 and possibly go s/c or buy a wrecked navigator and do a 5.4 swap with add ons for it? Also what suggestions and advice would you guys give for either of the two.

On the americanmuscle.com forums they have like a 115 page forum thread talking about 5.4 engine swaps...i'd say 10 or so have actually done it on that forums.

i'll see if i can find the thread but it shouldn't be hard to find if you go to the main forum 4.6 page

I gotta say, if you have the time/money to do a 351 swap, I don't see the point of putting it in a new edge frame. with the ease/results you can get from a foxbody setup....

Its going to be an easy 5-8K invested in the engine alone to build a real stout 351 combo (stout enough to make it worth it anyway IMO) and then thousands more to get it in and running. Once you start comparing it to what a 4.6L 2v you already have could do (similar cost) its hard to justify, unless your just doing it for the "nobody else has one" factor.

I am looking forward to seeing your results with the 5.4L/blown setup, simply to see what kind of numbers the car puts down compared to a 4.6L with a similar setup. Should be fairly easy to compare with all the blown/built 4.6L setups out there.

I am really leading more toward the 5.4 swap. But after reading the thread on A.M. forum thread ( mentioned above ) They talk about being able to do the 5.4 swap for just over a grand. I cant seem to find a 5.4 for less than $4,500. Any suggestions other than craigslist or ebay? I would like to find a Navi that has been smashed in the a$$ and just buy the whole dam thing.

You realise that without spending major coin on a H/C setup for this its basically pissing in the wind right? Just swapping a stock navi motor is NOT going to be worth the hassle and money its going to cost.
