Default Oil change question...

I've searched and not found my answer, so..... The oil drain plug has a rubber o ring attatched. Is this something that gets changed out from time to time? It seems that it and what looks like aluminum on the flange, take the place of an additional washer at oil change time. Feedback?

The plugs that come on the fords have a rubber gasket as part of the plug which doesnt need to be replaced, if you replace the plug with a type that isnt like that, just use a nylon or rubber gasket and change it when it starts lookin crappy or leaky.

That's what I was guessing, but couldn't get a good answer from two Ford dealers! Thanks!
