Default Help! 4.6 L 2v dies coming to

Help! my 2000 Mustang GT has died 4 times (all seperate days). I am unsure what could be the cause of it. The car is stock except for the K&N filter and removed intake silencer. The oil level is fine, and it doesn't overheat or anything. All of the guages appear normal. My only guess is MAF. I really don't know though. This has happened twice in my neighborhood when coming towards a stop sign or light from about 30 mph to 15 mph. It happened today when I was backing out of a parking spot. I would appreciate any input any one has. The car only has 26xxx miles on it, but is out of warranty since it is a 2000.

Clean the Air Intake Temp Sensor, its located on the intake tube not far from the mass air sensor. Take it out, spray it with brake cleaner, stick it back in. Bam problem fixed (if your lucky).

Yeah, I'm not stalling, the problem has been when slowing in neutral. The car has also developed an idle problem, not so much of being rough, but it will idle smoothly, then it will drop to 300-400 rpm and then save it self and rev up as high as 1300 to avoid dying. I also remembered that the first time it died was after a run up to 136 mph and then slowing to 45. I just slowly backed down and was slowing, not an emergency stop or quick stop or anything. I will go to Autozone tomorrow and buy some brake cleaner and try that. Any thoughts on whether it is the MAF? I kinda am looking for a reason to put a larger one on anyhow. Thanks guys.

MAF would probably affect your entire rpm range. not just idle and if anything would least likely affect idle.

Check to see if your battery charge is running high. It could be the alternator going out, although usually they will whine a little.

Another thing might be your throttle cable getting loose or the TPS sensor going out.

I just opened up my intake and sprayed the air intake temperature sensor with some brake cleaner, as mdvaldosta said. I was wondering if i should spray the MAF as well since i have it all apart. I'm going to reclean / oil my K&N while I'm at it. Thanks guys (and girls?).

What exactly is the idle air control valve and how do I check it? Cleaning the air temperature sensor made no difference. I went by the local Ford dealership (Bo Beukman) and they were no help. They said that they would have to do a diagnostics test for $150. The guy wouldn't even tell me if he had heard of any similar cases or anything. Worthless. I guess I might try to see if a mechanic can run the diagnostics, or if only Ford has the proper computers. The labor rate at my dealership is $98/ hour too! Thanks everybody, You guys are my best source for this problem. andrew.

Idle air, or Throttle position sensor, or adjust the idle air control nut, not sure what else would cause that.
