Buy the sean hyland book about 4.6 and 5.4 engines it has a detailed guide. I also suggest you buy the ohc valve spring compressor so you can remove roller rockers when you time it in just to make life a little easier.Pricey though the tool is $ 200

I think i was 17 or 18 when i put cams in my jetta a year or so ago. Age is really no excuse for skill. If you think you can do it, you probably can. I'd go to howstuffworks.com and study basic engine principle, you should have a pretty solid idea.

ill do a write up... im going to be swapping cams out and heads and doing headers and a clutch and all that...so when im done ill do it...i have intake and valve covers off...taking timing and all that apart today and i also have my transmission out

Hey, if anyone needs help on a SOHC, feel free to PM me and Ill get back to you ASAP. Ive done it on mine, and ran into plenty of problems, but they came out great. Just make sure you have these things: the Haynes manual, a friend with mechanical skill, TIME, and extra cash for unexpected problems. Your also gonna need to rent a harmonic balancer pulley puller.
