Its a feel.
+1. Just tighten it down enough. You're going to need to hold the crank pulley so the engine won't turn over. The bolt will bottom out, so don't worry about over tightening it. A place by me will only charge like $50 to install UDP's. I figure a shop wouldn't charge much more than $40 to do just a crank pulley. Hell, if you were near me I'd do it for you.

I just dont have anything to hold the crank pulley still while tightening it down. And im putting all my hopes and faith in the guess that the pulley is the reason why the car's vibrating, and since its such an easy/inexpensive fix, i want to at least give it a try asap. Cause the track opens this coming saturday, and i already got off of work. No way im gonna sit on my *** and miss out. Nor will i be able to stand the feeling ill get if i wait till after missing out on saturday just to find out that if the pulley was on straight and tightened down more, i coulda been racing. Peace of mind kinda thing, i wanna get the car ready to roll. So i might as well get everything done all in one shot. Be in and outta the shop in an hour or so.

The car in 4th gear will be more than enough to keep teh motor from turning at all.

I installed my crank pulley with EASE after finially getting the right crankpulley/vibration dampner kit from AutoZone.

sorry to steal the thread but if you dont tighten it down enough would that cause it to leak oil...cuz my car is leaking oil out of the crank pully and im sure of this cuz i put dye in the oil and used a uv light and it showed up all green and what not...so n e ideas how to fix it?

No, cause then i woulda been leaking oil when i had the pulley off. Odds are its the front crankshaft seal on the timing cover. A little plastic/rubber ring thats kinda a bitch to get in. I dont think you canbuy it seperate, cause it comesin a "timing cover gasket kit" which includes everything.

You can get a front crank seal by itself.

I knew this mechanic, and he told me, that depending on what you're working on, sans heads, manifolds, bottom end, etc..

Tights tight, too tights broke...

66ft/lbs isn't a ton, but it's definitely fairly snug.. 34ft/lbs isn't that much either... The key to doing it twice, is to make sure the pulley is seated squarely against the crank.. That's it.. It's like putting wheels on, or torquing a head down.. You wouldn't just go from right to left, rather in a manner which each bolt is tightened as close to a uniform torque..

It's easy.. Don't stress it too much..

I just need a breakerbar to stop the engine from turning, cause my options are:

breakerbar and torque wrench
or
impact wrench

I have neither. [&:]

I know on most cars, you need to drop the oil pan to change out either main seal.. I'm having a tough time remembering this, but I believe you will need to remove the front cover to get it done correctly..
