If you have a sub on both sides of the trunk then you have the 1000. If there are no subs you most likely have the 460. If for some reason you still cant figure it out just post a pic of your trunk and your head unit

well, i still can't figure out which system i have because i don't have the owner's manual. the deck nor any of the speakers say "460" or "1000" anywhere on them, just Mach Audio.

I am going to be replacing the head unit with a Panasonic unit that was in my old SRT-4. this unit has built-in iPod functionality and will be easy to integrate the Mach subs/amps with the headunit using this how-to:

http://www.stangnet.com/Tech-Article...Head-Unit.html

Read my message again.
If you have 2 subs in the trunk, you have the Mach 1000.
If not you have the Mach 460.

There is no reason that I know of why the adapter won't work with the 2004 cars.
A lot of Mustang parts say 99-03 and leave out the 04 model for some reason.
I think it has to do with them anticipating the new 05 S197 models so they didn't do any updating in the product lines as far as documentation is concerned.

You can always send it back if it doesn't work.

Integrating new components into the Mach systems is a nightmare because of the weird impedences used for the speakers and amp outputs.
