How do you check the alternator if its working?

You can check the voltage coming from the alternator by throwing the volt meter leads on the positive terminal and a good engine ground.. That should give you a good idea of where the alternator's at... I don't know the specific voltage it should be putting out though, so you may want to reference the factory manual...
