It shortens the length you have to move the shifter, to change gears. Its a great first mod, and really helps you get on your way to the driver mod!

MGW FTW... you are going to need to practice with the manual... only way to get better but you will get better in due time... take it into the nearest big city around you around 5 or 6 pm. you will learn real fast how to drive the basics on the manual

Congrats on the new purchase. Sounds like you got a pretty good deal. The fog lights and the rest of the lights can be purchased at a local autozone ect.

As for the mod bug. I just dropped $5000 into my car, and by far, the best thing I did was add gears. Get 3.73 and have them installed and then your realize what a beast is. your looking atabout $500 for the gearsand intall. Cheap and you would really feel the improvement. Don't go any lower with the gears if you like to drive 70+mph.

How much would the new gears take off the top speed? Not that I hit top speed often at all... i dont know if i ever will actually (well i probably will eventually) Top speed on a stock gt is around 145 i hear? Would the gears make it like 130ish?

Also I bought a new air filter,, not sure if i need new transmission fluid or anything,,, 75k miles and it seems to be doing fine so far. The engine oil is clean. The 1st mod i would do is the short shifter, it seems like it would help alot.

Being that you just purchased this car, it would be foolish to assume anything. When I got mine back in October, I changed the oil and switched to MOBIL1 5w20 fully synthetic, sparkplugs, had the transmission/radiator flushed, cleaned the air filter, and rotated/balanced my tires. You would do well to do the same. The car may be spotless on the outside but you never know what kind of hell the motor may have been put through and it would be best to just go through and do everything I just mentioned to be on the safe side.

getting lower gear doesn't hurt your top speed, in fact it makes it able for you to have a high top speed. The reasons is physics, the only reason car don't top out in there last gear when you floor it is because of air resistance. with the rpm higher you have more power at the same speed you would have with stock gears, thus making you able to go faster.

Cool, yea i didnt know the top speed wasnt redline in 5th, mainly because i havent tried.

What is the usual before/after top speed difference between those? and 0-60 and 1/4 mile diff?
