Default RE: Throw Out Bearing?

I had a tob from Oreilly that made noise with the clutch pedal out, then the next one made noise when pushing the clutch in. I bought an OEM one the next time and haven't had any
trouble since.
Don't skimp on cheap tob's.

Thanks for all the responses everyone. I am still wondering what it is though because people are all saying it could be different things. So it is definately either the throw out bearing or the pilot bearing? There's no way its the linkage or anything simple?

One more thing, I heard you can lubricate the throw out bearing through the clutch fork opening as a temporary fix. Should I try this?

if you have to replace one, you might as well do both since you'll have the trans out anyway.

I know this is an old thread but im wondering if anyone has tried this and succeded.

The clutch fork opening is that hole in the bottom of the transmission right? I might spray some chain grease up there and see if it has any affect or if i can hit the TOB.

Any comments on this?

Edit: To answer the guy above me: I wouldn't try this. Chances are the clutch disk will end up getting some oil mist on it, and will slip. Pull the transmission and fix it right. Truthfully, the second time I had my transmission out to replace the clutch pivot fork, I had my 15 year old brother help me and we had it out, the fork replaced, and the tranny bolted back in... took 4 hours start to finish.

Can a bad throw out bearing also yield a stiffer feeling in the pedal?

^^^ I don't think it will. TOB just go bad after a while and they can go bad faster than normal if the clutch cable is too tight.

Hmm okay, i dont want to thread jack but whats a few things to do to make the clutch feel smoother and not as hard to push in? Ill refer to haynes and see what the manual says as well.

yes that is what i finally did and it worked. It's not the proper thing to do but it worked for me and lasted about 3 months. I did it again and it's been fine ever since (I made this thread a long time ago)

Take that cover off the bottom of the transmission and use some kind of lubricant spray it on the bearing it will probably work but it's a question of how long it will last.

It's not that bad IMO if you would have to do it every few months.
