I will almost gurantee that it is the intake manifold where the thermostat housing is. Mine was a hairline crack that you couldnt even see with the manifold on the car. I actually talked to someone at a ford dealership about it and he said they had tons of problems with those manifolds. There was obviously a design flaw somewhere because their replacement has a metal thermostat housing instead of the plastic

sometimes i wonder why some people even doubt that the intake isnt bad when they find problems like this one.

its a 2000 gt. and no i wont know whats wrong with it until this weekend when i have time to start digging into his car (we work different shifts and i dont feel like taking a car apart and 2:00 in the morning in a dorm parking lot). odds are manifold, cracking the head is very unlikely in the first place and he babies his car a hell of alot more than i do mine.

alright, i just wanted to make sure it was a newer stang and not like a fox body lol. but yea most of these cars crack their manifolds. not to bad to replace, just as long as you catch all the fluids

The newer intakes didnt crack too much around the thermostat because they are aluminum wherethe housing iswell at least on the 01-04, but they are plastic everywhere else. they are also bad about cracking at the back aon the right side where the hose goes into the intake.

BS...mine cracked right under the aluminum crossover.

i dont know if or where his is cracked, i saw no visible signs of a bust looking at his engine bay but its definately a possibility. i'm gonna rip it off tomorrow night when i get off work, that way he can do whatever he has to do on saturday

mine did the same, i bought an update npi intake, which had the aluminum crossover, but it cracker where the aluminum crossover conencted to the plastic intake manifold and then it connected to the head, that plastic right there cracked where the o-ring seals the two together and i could definately see it was warped.

yeah they are just poorly designed manifolds period. plastic manifold on the top of a hot, vibrating engine was a great idea.
