pi head/intake/cams = more hp
96-98 4.6 engines use flat top pistons vice 99+ 4.6 using dished. they have about the same compression ratio in stock form, but if you put pi heads on a non pi block youll have a higher compression ratio that a pi engine. also romeo pi heads will give you a bit more compression than the windsor, thats why they avg. a bit more hp in stock form on a dyno.just try to avoid the all plastic intake manifold since they are known to crack where the coolant cross over is loctated.

also 4.10's are way to deep for a stock non pi 4.6l. they dont have enough top end hp.

4.10s are gears. you can put them in any mustangs.

you could always do like the tuners, take out most of your interior "weight reduction" and take off your cat-back exhaust factory system. youll look like a complete tool but atleast youll be faster without spending a dime. maybe like go from 14.8 to 14.76 in the 1/4.

-1 on the tuner theme. mustangs arent jap-scrap cars, but thats the topic of another post.
pi swaps are for 98 and older stangs b/c 99 and newer ones come with the pi heads. and the 4.10's can be put on any car, but they are to low of a gear for stock non pi or even a pi 4.6. sohc 4.6 have to short of a redline. dohc can easily run 4.10's.

i was wondering if anyone knew how to make my 1997 mustang Gt faster (more hp) basic **** without spending any money?

does anyone know how to bump my timing too?
not possible buddy, unless like one dude said u completely sprip your car naked. and u might pick up a few .01's which is not worth it. so lets be realistic here... 1k will get u a pi head swap if u do everything yourself. 2k will get u ported pi heads, better cams, headers. if u do all the wrok yourself that is. 3-5k will get u a blower, but keeping the stock h/c/i. if u want pi h/c/i and a blower add the two together.

some of the cheaper things include gears, which are about 600 after pro intall
do the basic CAI which is about 250
chip is about 300 with a tune itd be about 500
thottle body and plenum will run u about 400-500 depending on brand(but this yields no real hp gains, just livens up the throttle)
if uwere more specific as to what u wanted and your budget then we'd be able to help u more. plus using the search option wouldnt be a bad idea
