i'm thinking it's ignition related. if you put it in 5th and floor it, does start to miss really bad? if it does, one or more of your coils are probably on the way out since you've already ruled out the plugs

ORIGINAL: Racing2fast

Shoot, I didnt think about this, I wonder if it's BAD GAS, I did fuel up on the way out to get my daughter. It was in the hood, but it was a Shell Station, and 93 at that. Whopping 4.01 a gallon. It didnt do it at all until after this last fuel up. I didnt have to drive it but about a mile or two after fueling up. Picked her up, and as I took back off she started hesitating under stronger acceleration. Im wondering if the gas is bad, since the car is set up on 93, with the custom tune, having the timing maxed out and more aggressive then he typically sets it up.

the car has 140k on it,and I'd bet my *** the stock fuel filter is still being used! When i picked the car up a few weeks ago I changed everything but the fuel filter.

I changed the oil/filter, tranny, differential fluid, coolant flush, power steering, brake fluid. Car wasnt running bad, so I waited a bit before checking the plugs, and the fuel filter never crossed my mind... How Stupid![:@]
It could be shells gas. Do your shell gas stations have that new sign on the pumps? Something about the amount of ethenol in it. I fogot what the % it said, but i haven't been to shell since I seen it. Something like gas contains at least This % of ethenol. Its new.

Sounds like it could be a COP, but fuel filter is cheaper and needs a change anyways. I would start there

Im thinking about getting new COP's since I have the x-tra money, and atleast knowing where I stand with those. Any idea's which brand, ect..ect.. Im not planning on anything major as far as mods, so will the normal factory replacements, from Orileys, Advance or something be sufficent?

Thanks
Tom

I've had the same exact issue, and the topic comes up every month on every Mustang forum it seems like. I got an $80 PCM reflash from Ford and it fixed everything.

Default car stumbles when speeding up..

I also have this problem with my 2000 GT. I changed my plugs and coil packs and it ran great for about a month and now its stumbles when i speed up. could it just be back coil packs? I was thinking of changing the fuel filter next but i was looking for some direction.

Ignition related IMO, for future reference you can't diagnose an issue by comparing revving in neutral to driving a car in gear, in neutral there is no load on the car which makes a big difference.
