Buy question?
This is my first post on the board and i have some questions. I have a chance to buy a 96 Mustang GT next weekend. I want the car because i need the v-8 power (currently have a Firebird) but when i got home and did research the numbers were not impressive. It says the 96 Gt ownly puts out 215 horsepower and if i remeber correctly thats not even rwhp. If this is true, im guessing that with light modifications it really wakes up the Mustang. Is this true or do i need a Cobra. Thanks.</P>

If you have the cash get the Cobra, but if you want to save some get the GT, and use the remaining cash to help wake the GT up. IT NEEDS TO BREATHE<IMG src=smileys/smiley8.gif border="0">!</P>
However, you should know that the 4.6's were not making impressive power at all when they first began being make, so a 96 model is not going to blow your doors off w/out a little help [read: money, mods, & time].</P>

get a later gt with the 4 valve heads. VERY much more improvement. The 4.6 has a much more impressive factory power curve than the 5.0. My '96 isnt running so great right now but 4-valve cobra or later gt heads are just plain bad azz. Regardless of operating condition a '96 gt 5-speed stang is still very fun. Why buying stall it to make the motor shake. If mounts are bad you will hear many funny noises, dont buy or check it out first. also get it up to about 45-60 in 5th and give qaurter throttle. If it shakes and lunges, be weary. It's not neccisarily a serious problem but it makes it a lot less fun. it could b common and it's not normal or normally noticeable. <-----(what mine is doing)<edited><editID>Jackal2k3</editID><editDate>37919.0560648148</editDate></edited>

Probably?? You mean DEFINITELY need a M.AM., exhaust (headers, mid, cat-back), a 4.10, and a shifter at the least to bring a 96 anywhere near up to par. </P>
Better yet...that car's warranty is over...get a blower! There is plenty of power for ya! IMO...99+ [w/a little biasis towards the '02<IMG src=smileys/smiley16.gif border="0">] models are the best GT's produced.</P>

You'll need 4.10 gears, long tube headers, cold air, intake and traction and more...to hold with a new stock 4.6.</P>
Either way, if you want to see 13's in a 96 it's going to take the same amount of money in mods to get there than it would to just by a 99+ GT and be knocking on the door stock & you can get there with radials.</P><edited><editID>Dan02GT</editID><editDate>37919.6470717593</editDate></edited>

Buy question?
I'm thinking im going to just have to mod the 96 GT because its the one that is availble and i dont really want to wait. I have a deal worked out with my friend whos going to let me have it at a resonable price. Do you guys think im making a mistake? What does a stock 96 GT run at the track?</P>
